Why Plus Size St Patrick’S Day is Necessary

As a plus-size woman, I have always felt like an outsider on St. Patrick’s Day. The traditional imagery of the holiday–green beer, leprechauns, and corned beef and cabbage–is not very inclusive of people of my size. I have never seen a plus-size leprechaun, and I can’t imagine how corned beef and cabbage would taste on a plate that’s big enough for me.

But more than that, I have always felt like I didn’t belong on St. Patrick’s Day because of the way I was treated by other people. I have been made fun of for my weight, and I have even been refused service at bars on St. Patrick’s Day because the owners didn’t think I would fit in.

This is why I believe that a plus-size St. Patrick’s Day is necessary. It is a day for plus-size people to celebrate their Irish heritage and to feel proud of who they are. It is a day to defy the stereotypes and to show the world that plus-size people are just as worthy of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day as anyone else.

A plus-size St. Patrick’s Day would be a day of fun, food, and festivities for everyone. It would be a day to come together and celebrate our differences. It would be a day to show the world that we are all proud to be Irish, no matter what our size.
